National Natural Science Fund 2019: evaluations concluded
On 16 August 2020, the National Natural Science Foundation of China (NSFC) announced on its website that the evaluation of 2019 applications for the National Natural Science Fund has been concluded.
The announcement only refers to those programmes which follow the ‘centralised application mechanism’ - i.e. with applications submitted between 1 and 20 March and for which research topics and subjects were indicated in the 2019 NSFC Annual Application Guidelines. It does not include figures for the programme ‘Major Research Plan’ for which the NSFC publishes individual calls throughout the year. A total of 240,711 applications were received (+12% on 2018), 3,713 of which did not pass the screening of eligibility requirements. A total of 41,752 projects were approved, including:
- Basic programme: 18,995 projects
- Young scientist fund: 17,966 projects
- Key programme: 743 projects
- Key international cooperation research programme: 103 projects
Rejected applicants can submit an official request for re-examination in limited cases.
