According to a press release by the National Bureau of Statistics, China’s Innovation Index in 2018 reached 212.0 (+8.6% on the previous year), exceeding for the first time 200. Specifically:
- Innovation environment: 225.8 (+10.9% on 2017), particularly led by a significant increase of the number of enterprises enjoying tax deductions or exemptions; and by wider availability of S&T financing;
- Innovation input: 194.1 (+6% on 2017), particularly led by an increase of R&D spending intensity and full-time equivalent R&D personnel and of basic researchers;
- Innovation output: 264.1 (+11.7% on 2017), particularly led high percentages of patents and of technology deals every 10,000 staff. The percentage of invention patents on the total, however, decreased compared to the previous year;
- Innovation effectiveness: 164.1 (+4% on 2017), particularly led by per capital operational revenue and percentage of sales of new products.
