In line with the State Council’s Plan for the Development of New Generation Artificial Intelligence (Guo Fa No. 35) and the Implementation Measures for Accelerating the High-Quality Development of Artificial Intelligence in Shanghai(Hu Jing Xin Ji No. 569), the Shanghai Municipal Commission of Economy and Informatisation on 11 December 2018 officially released the ‘Smart City’ Implementation Plan to boost the development of artificial intelligence in Shanghai.
Specifically, the Plan aims to establish by 2020 a total of 6 AI innovation demonstration areas and 60 AI deep-application stages within the city’s districts – namely areas where AI technologies will be applied to other industries such as manufacturing, healthcare, transports, education, finance, government affairs, and security. The objective is to enhance Shanghai’s role as a pioneer of AI application, and the public awareness of the key role of AI technologies.
According to the Plan, district-level authorities as well as management committees of S&T parks and industry associations should submit, twice a year, proposals to the municipal commission for the establishment of AI deep-application stages. After approval, the selected AI deep-application stages will call AI companies worldwide to submit technology and project proposals. Selected projects are expected to become large beneficiaries of the Shanghai AI Innovation Development Special Programme.
